The Core Job
The fundamental task the customer is trying to carry out, written as 'situation → motivation → result'. Independent of your product or category.
Questions that help
- ·What progress is the customer trying to make in their work or life?
- ·In which situation, or after which trigger, does the job arise?
- ·Which end result would the customer consider ideal, however they get there?
Example
"When I am on the train (situation), I want to use the time productively (job), so I do not have to work at home and have time for my family (result)."
Common mistake
Defining the job in terms of your product ("The job is using a CRM system"). A real job survives the disappearance of your entire category.
